ACS5 Sport Touring
1.1 HP per liter? This figure in relation to a high performance sports car such as the newACS5 Sport Touring based on the BMW M5 certainly doesn't refer to the conventional ratio of capacity to power. Instead: 500 liters luggage space meets 552 red-hot HP (406 kW). Plenty of room in every respect for incomparable driving pleasure on one hand, and a hang-glider, surfboard or mountain bike on the other. Drivers of vehicles like this think in different terms from conventional sports car drivers. But no way do they lag behind when it comes to driving dynamics.
Performance Upgrades
Engine tuning and performance upgrades have a long tradition at AC Schnitzer. To be on the safe side however, we prefer not to extract the maximum possible power but instead ensure greater robustness, which means a longer life of the engine. Many of our diesel performance upgrades are therefore designed for an increase in torque rather than an increase in horsepower. Because torque is what you feel when for example you're "pressed back in the seat" on pulling away. The M5 is improved by AC Schnitzer in the area of the exhaust system. The newly developed double sports rear silencer made completely from stainless steel and finished with the equally new chromed tailpipe trims in "Sports Trim" or "Racing" design, gives the M5 a far more powerful and sonorous voice than its standard brother. To achieve good deceleration values, development of a braking system was essential. On the front axle this takes the uncompromising form of an 8-pot fixed caliper with standard brake disks in (Ø 374 mm) and with 36 mm thickness. The equipment level also includes 8 special brake pads.
Suspension
The ACS5 Sport however is more than a "muscle car" with tremendous acceleration capacity. With the AC Schnitzer suspension components, it develops the dynamism and agility of an Olympic hurdler. The package was set up personally by racing driver and technical director Manfred Wollgarten on the Nürburgring. The kit includes sports performance springs, which lower the centre of gravity of the vehicle further and reduce body roll thanks to the harder set-up, and a special aluminum strut brace for the front axle.
The Bodywork
Power is sexy, but since extra power can be felt but not seen, AC Schnitzer has designed a comprehensive aerodynamic package. But this is more than mere decoration. The AC Schnitzer carbon front spoiler elements with their optional chromed aluminum webs and chromed front grille, are not only reminiscent of classic super sports cars but provide any quantity of cooling air for the greedy power plant. All in all, the front of the ACS5 Sport looks far more dynamic. Form follows function: This principle has been systematically applied by the engineers and designers at the rear too. Form-perfectly integrated into the rear skirt, a carbon diffuser together with a roof lip spoiler provides additional down-force. Integrated flush into the rear design, the AC Schnitzer exhaust tailpipes in "Sports Trim" design are particularly aesthetically pleasing.
Interior
Occupants of the ACS5 Sport Touring however also enjoy more attention in Aachen. On request a carbon interior is available in sports titanium finish "Exclusive" or a 3-spoke airbag sports steering wheel. The matching i-Drive controller in wheel design and AC Schnitzer foot mats complete the harmonious concept. So the only sports equipment the driver need be concerned with goes in the boot.
The Wheels
In addition, the M5 can be equipped with racing and light alloy wheels in various designs and sizes. For one-piece variants, wheels in Type III and IV are available in sizes 8.5J x 19" to 9.5J x 19".
Even more exclusive are the racing rims in Types III and IV, in different sizes from 19" through 20" and in the top version even up to size 9.0J and 10.0J x 21".
The absolute highlight in the wheel range is the new "Type V - Forged Wheel". This lightweight forged wheel with the bi-color finish achieves an apparent contradiction: Reduction in weight with simultaneous maximum wheel diameters and widths. It is available in the dimensions 9,0Jx20" and 10,0Jx20" and the weight of the front axle wheel is only approx. 10,8 kg.
